The Abia State Police Command headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital, has been invaded by gunmen and a policeman was Killed in the process.

The deceased, an Inspector, was on guard duty at the front of the headquarters on Bende Road when the gunmen struck around 1 a.m, according to sources.

He was purported to have sought the help of his colleagues to combat the hoodlums, who then fled.

It was also uncovered that the hoodlums might also have inflicted even more devastation if the police officers on duty had not interrupted.

SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, did not return calls or texts sent to his phone number.

However, the incident was verified by a senior police officer in the state.
