Lewandowski slams Messi over his seventh Ballon d'Or remark

Following Messi’s remarks after claiming his seventh Ballon d’Or, Robert Lewandowski has attacked the PSG player.

Lionel Messi’s appreciation to him at last week’s Ballon d’Or event left Robert Lewandowski unimpressed, with the Bayern Munich star characterizing his rival’s remarks as empty words.

Messi, 34, who recently joined PSG from Barcelona, controversially won the 2021 award over Lewandowski, 33, despite many fans and analysts believing the Polish marksman was more qualified.

Lewandowski¬†was the best performance in 2020, but he was brutally deprived of the Ballon d’Or as Covid-19 impaired the award ceremony.

Messi recognized that Lewandowski earned the trophy for 2020 in his acceptance speech, and implored event organizers to Pole his award prospectively.

The 33-year-old, on the other hand, was unconvinced by Messi’s compliments, characterizing them as mere talk that symbolizes dishonesty.

While talking to Marca, Lewandowski said

I’m not that enthusiastic about getting the 2020 award.

I would like it to be a sincere and courteous statement from a great player and not just an empty words.

I felt sadness. I can’t deny it. I can’t say I was happy, on the contrary. I have a feeling of sadness.

To be so close, to compete with Messi, of course, I respect how he plays and what he has achieved.

The mere fact that I was able to compete with him shows me the level that I was able to reach.
