After Jack Grealish and Phil Foden were allegedly seen in a nightclub and then sidelined for the match against Newcastle, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued a warning to his players concerning off-field behavior during Christmas.

When City visited St James Park and won 4-0, the England two, along with John Stones, were the only changes to the side that hammered Leeds 7-0.

Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus replaced Foden and Grealish in the starting XI, while Joao Cancelo, who had been suspended, was reintroduced to Guardiola’s first team in place of Stones.

Stones was summoned from the bench in the 70th minute, although Grealish and Foden were not played.

The Telegraph had released a photo of Grealish and Foden supposedly in a nightclub after the Leeds game, suggesting City were displeased with their condition when they arrived for a recovery session the following day.

While speaking about the players he played against Leeds and how cautious his players should be during Christmas, Guardiola said

It was not rotation. I decided on this team because they deserved to play today, these guys and not the other ones.

At Christmas time I pay a lot of attention to behavior on and off the pitch. And when off the pitch is not proper, they are not going to play.

So we have to be focused all the time because of distractions at Christmas time and everything that happens, you have to still be focused.
