Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, has disclosed that he’s already in talks with Netflix concerning a third season of the renowned record-breaking series.

During a conversation with Korean network KBS, the director revealed the second season of Squid Game’s storyline while also speculating on the third season.

I’m in talks with Netflix over season two as well as season three. We will come to a conclusion soon.

We are aware that everyone is waiting [for the next season to come out] so we’re all trying to think positively about the creation of the next season.

The focus [of season two] will be the story of Seong Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) as he unravels everything.

The plotline of season two will be the people Gi Hun meets and the people he chases after.

The first season of Squid Game premiered on Netflix in September and rapidly topped to become the most-watched series on the platform.

According to Netflix’s official numbers, the South Korean series had become a worldwide success, bringing the total number of 111 million views.

The series, which aired for nine episodes, depicted an extensive competition in which distressed debtors compete in a series of terrifying children’s games in the hopes of winning a substantial financial reward to pay off their debt and live a better life.

Hwang in a discussion with the associated Press last month made it known about and commented about the request for more episodes from the fans.

There’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice. But I will say: there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now.

I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.
